H. Downie & Co.

This page shows the  'Downies' pot originating from Newcastle on Tyne

Henry Downie & Co was first recorded in local directories in 1851. He was born in 1829 in North Shields where he lived and later established his drug merchant business.

Three prices are listed on the pot, 1s 1½d and 2s 9d & 4s 6d, the latter two being plain pots with transfer printed lids.

An article regarding the Downie's pot & pot lid appears in BBR magazine no. 52

It is apparent from a photo that I have been provided with that there are two variations of pot lids produced by the company bearing very ornate transfers.
