This page shows the 'Humphrey's' ointment pot originating from London
Robert Humphrey is first listed in the trade directory in 1839 as being based in Sheerness. In the early 1850's he moved to London where he is listed as a newsagent, probably selling this ointment from the retail premises.
The pot is printed on both sides and six prices are listed. Only one size of ointment pot is known so the larger sizes were possibly sold in lidded pots. A busy pot with lots of writing claiming to cure many ailments.
Further detailed information can be obtained from the Historical Guide to Delftware and Victorian Ointment Pots book produced by Messrs. Houghton & Priestley, page 78.
