This page shows the 'Mrs Gare' bowl shaped ointment pot originating from London
Richard Simmons is listed in the1881 Census as a druggist assistant. The directory for the following year shows him as an 'ointment maker'. The wife of Mr Simmons, Emily Simmons, continued the business following his death.
A super shaped bowl of early delftware style bearing the portrait of a matronly looking lady. There is a resemblance with this pot to the pot lid of Mrs Ellen Hale's Celebrated Heal-All Ointment whose proprietor was Mrs E. Hummerstone, based in York Street, Walworth same as was the Simmons's.
