This page shows the 'Smellie's' Golden Ointment pot originating from NZ or Australia
Little is known about this shallow pot. Several examples have been discovered in New Zealand so it may well originate from there or possibly from Australia.
An article appears in BBR magazine no. 86 confirming that one of these pots was actually found in an antique shop in New Zealand. The article states the pot was recovered by the shop owner from a circa 1890 Auckland corporation dump sometime around 1985.
